The invention is ammunition with a combustible cartridge case or with no cartridge case, which ammunition is provided with a protective surface coating which comprises metal powder dispersed in a coating material of low flamability which is capable of forming a continuous surface coating. The protective surface coating protects the ammunition against accidental ignition.
