<p>In the production of optical fibres by the PCVD process, the process yield ( eta ) is increased, in particular at high deposition rates (<o>m</o>), by shortening the geometrical taper (line IV) without thereby forming optical tapers. This is achieved by depositing glass in layers on the inside of a glass tube and simultaneously on a glass rod having a circular cross section which is arranged inside the glass tube in such a manner that its longitudinal axis coincides with the longitudinal axis of the glass tube, the radius of the glass rod being at most 0.67 times and at least 0.2 times the internal radius of the glass tube, and removing the glass rod from the glass tube when the glass deposition is complete. <IMAGE></p> |
