1330422 Texturing filaments BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 21474/71 Heading DIF A process for the manufacture of textured filaments composed of synthetic linear materials of high molecular weight comprising subjecting the filaments to a turbulently flowing medium in a location between a filament inter channel and a filament guide channel in which the filaments are heated to a temperature at which molecular re-orientation occurs in the filaments, the flow of medium being such that it guides the filaments through the guide channel and past at the end of the guide channel a point where there is an increase in cross-section causing a suction effect, said point representing the inlet end of a slightly tapered zone having radial orifices extending in the longitudinal direction and through which an ingress of ambient air takes place so as to produce a temperature drop, the length of the orifices and the distance between filament guide channel and the orifices being adjustable to produce resonance in the flowing medium and cause a continuously moving stellate baffling effect to be exerted on the filament thus stabilising the filaments without causing them to adhere to each other. The process is applicable to polyamides, polyesters and isotactic polypropylene, particularly nylon and polyethylene terephthalate. The process may be carried out in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 wherein filaments 3 enter a chamber 1 at a filament inlet channel 4 and contact a heated fluid medium i.e. air which is fed to the apparatus via the inlet 14. The filaments are then conveyed along the filament guide channel 5 to the chamber 2. This chamber tapers slightly and is provided along its sides with slots 10. This chamber is held in position by a screw 9. The length of the slots may be varied by moving the cylindrical metal element 11. This element may be fixed in position by screw 12. |
