A device 1 for unloading items, in particular elongate pieces of timber, from a conveyor path 1, 3 comprises movable carrier elements 10, which are sloping relative to their direction of motion, in order to impart transverse force components onto a piece 2 of timber conveyed on the conveyor, when arrested by a stop 11, said components effecting a sidewise displacement of the piece of timber so that it falls down from the conveyor, essentially in parallel therewith.
