PURPOSE:The titled carrier, having slight nonspecific adsorption, and prepared by coating a substrate with a specific copolymer consisting of a hydrophilic (meth) acrylate as a main constituent. CONSTITUTION:A substrate, e.g. glass, active carbon or silica, is coated with a copolymer containing a hydrophilic (meth)acrylate monomer of the formula CH2= C(R1)CO2R2OR3 (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is 2-3C bifunctional alkylene, etc.; R3 is H, 1-3C alkyl, etc.) as a main constituent and 1-50wt% unsaturated carboxylic acid of the formula CH2=C(R1)CO2H or unsaturated amine of the formula CH2=(R1)CO2R2NHR3 as a comonomer to give a carrier for immobilizing a physiologically active substance, e.g. urease. The resultant coated carrier is covered with a hydrophilic surface having carboxyl or amino groups and capable of immobilizing the physiologically active substance directly or via other groups.
