PURPOSE:To eliminate the high-voltage parts of an organic-electrolyte battery, which has a positive electrode made of manganese dioxide and a negative electrode made of lithium, and thereby even the discharge characteristics of that by subjecting the battery to predischarge through light-load. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 1 is obtained by compressing and molding a mixture of manganese dioxide, which is heated at about 350 deg.C for two hours, with a flakelike graphite and a polytetrafluoroethylene. A battery is constituted by the combination of the mixture 1, a negative electrode 5 made of lithium, and an organic electrolyte, which is prepared by dissolving 1mol of lithium chloric acid in 1l of the mixture of equal volumes of propylene carbonate and 1,2-dimethoxyethane. The battery, which has a open-circuit voltage of 3.6V, is subjected to predischarge at 1MOMEGA for 10 days to make it have a open-circuit voltage of 3.0V. Consequently, the high-voltage parts of the initial open-circuit voltage, which are caused by a slight amount of higher oxides developing on the surfaces of manganese-dioxide grains treated with heat, can be eliminated, and the discharge characteristics of the battery can be evened. |
