The sensing unit (1) consists of two pairs of steel bolts (3,3a,4,4a) fixed side by side on a carrier plate (2). Each bolt of the pair, tapers conically towards the centre of the carrier plate (2) where a field plate (7,7a) separates the truncations of the bolts (3,3a,4,4a) and is encapsulated in a plastic material contained with the help of filter discs (9). A magnet (5) is positioned between two of the coaxially to one another bolt sections (3,4). The two field plates (7,7a) form part of the electronic circuit containing a switching transistor in the digital control section of the analogue-digital circuitry. The circuitry used for sensing the passage of a tracked vehicle or track, because of the introduction of a particular impulse control, attains a considerable reduction in field plate current together with a relatively high sensitivity.
