This invention concerns to a reciprocal type recording/reproducing apparatus in a cassette tape recorder. The playback operation is obtained by equipping the cassette to its body, when the tape reaches to the end leader spot. The forward direction of the tape in reproduction is automatically switched to either forward or backward direction with the switching control means for the playing direction of the tape operated. The head and the pinch roller are released from the operating position by manipulating the fast-passing means of the tape in reproduction.
