The valve is for a blood-pressure measuring instrument having an inflatable sleeve, a vent pipe and vent valve. The pressure chamber (10) of the sleeve is connected via a flow-resistance throttle (14) to an auxiliary chamber (15) sealed by a diaphragm (16), which controls the position of the vent valve (12). The vent valve can be of the sliding, poppet or cone type, and a non-return valve (18) can be connected in parallel with the throttle. The design gives a linear pressure drop in the sleeve, independent of the volume of the latter and alterations during measurement.
