PURPOSE:To effectively detect the dirt on a charging electrode due to ink in a deflection control ink-jet recorder by applying a voltage to the charging electrode and utilizing the fluctuation of the potential of a charging detecting electrode according to said voltage. CONSTITUTION:Pressurized ink is jetted from an ink-jet nozzle 14a, and the jetted ink is vibrated under pressure by an electrostrictive vibrator 15a in order to regularly separate into ink particles. At the time when the separation occurs, according to a picture signal the jetted ink is selectively affected by a charging field formed by a charging electrode 20a to produce charged ink particles, which are then deflected by a deflecting electric field formed by a deflecting electrode 60a to perform printing on a recording paper. In this case, the vibration force of the pressure vibration by the electrostrictive vibrator 15a is set within a noncharging range, and a voltage, preferably a pulse voltage lower than the charging voltage, is applied to the charging electrode 20a. Then, from the potential or potential fluctuation of a charging detecting electrode 40a, the dirt on the charging electrode 20a due to ink is decided. |
