The bearing has a supporting portion with one or more hydrostatic pockets in the face towards the supported one, and which are supplied with fluid under pressure via a throttle passage. This passage (7) has a preliminary throttle (12) at one or more points, and the passage runs to the bearing surface (3) of the supported portion (2). The end face (10) round the passage, and the mating bearing face (31) of the supported portion, together form an annular throttle gap (11) for the fluid flowing out of the passage and into the pocket (6). The preliminary throttle (12) is in series with the throttle gap.
