Benzhydrindanes of formula (I) are new. In (I) R is H, alkyl, alkoxy, OH, halo, or haloalkyl; R1 is alkyl, OH, halo, CN or carboxy, inorganic salt of carboxy or carbalkoxy, or -CONR4R5, R2 is H or alkyl; R5 is O or H; m = zero or 1 such that m = zero when R3 = 0 and m = 1 when R3 = H, R4 and R5 are each H, alkyl, aryl opt. substd., heterocycle opt. substd. or -(CH2)nR6; R6 is carboxyl or its inorganic salt, carbalkoxy or -CONR4R5 and n = 1-5. (I) are antiinflammatories, antipyretics, and analgesics.
