<p>The optical element for conversion to use as a multiplexer or demultiplexer on the radiation divider principle for an optical light guide system is suitable multiple channel information or data transmission. The device has a core (1) with two parallel surfaces (7,8) between which area number of sloping channels (3) containing sections of optical fibre, so as to form a zig-zag transmission path from end to end. The ends of the channels terminate at the sides which are flat and polished, and are coated with two layers (18,19) which form edge filters. Also mounted on these two surfaces are two triangular blocks (30,40) also containing light guide channels which form extensions of the zig-zag light guides. At their outer ends can be mounted photo detectors (36,45) on bandpass filter layers (34,43) to form a demultiplexer. To form a multiplexer, these triangular blocks are used to connect input light guides to the core.</p> |
