PURPOSE:To provide an ink-jet recorder which is provided with a means which reads the size of an ink dot and a means which compares the measured value with a reference value and signals, and which can readily decide the spreading degree of the printed dot when recording paper is changed. CONSTITUTION:Several ink drops are jetted from an ink-jet head to a recording paper 8 to be tested to print dots 9, which are then read by progressive scanning line by line by a reader 2 through an optical reading system 1. The read signals (Fig. a) are shaped in a waveform shaping circuit 4 (Fig. b), counted (Fig. c) by a clock signal in a counter 5 and then compared with the count values obtained from a standard recording paper stored in a reference value setting circuit 6 in a comparing and deciding circuit 7, which outputs a signal when the measured value is larger than the reference value (Fig. d). Thereby, suitability as a recording paper can be readily decided. |
