The bearing unit accommodates lengthwise movement, and comprises a cylindrical shaft with a lengthwise recess, supported in a lengthwise guide bearing mounted in a housing. One or more rollers turn freely on pins mounted on the housing at right angles to the shaft axis, their peripheral surfaces engaging with the shaft recess so as to transmit torque between shaft and housing. The guide bearing (6) has a radial opening (19) extending for at least part of its length. The rollers (28,29) extend inwards through this opening, and are mounted in or on the housing.
