The electrode has a core made of Fe, Co, and/or Ni located inside a sheath contg. hard metal carbides, esp. tungsten carbide. The sheath forms 90-95% of the electrode wt., and consists of a tube contg. by wt. 87-95% carbides. The pref. electrode has a nickel core forming 8% of the electrode wt., whereas its tubular sheath forms 92% of the electrode wt., and contains 92% tungsten carbide plus 8% nickel. Electrode is easier to mfr. than similar conventional electrodes, and produces a deposit with high- hardness and wear resistance. Used e.g. for the hard coating of valves; cutting or drilling tools; excavator buckets etc. Electrode requires neither fluxes nor deoxidn. agents, so that it is much simpler to use than similar electrodes.
|
