The coin inlet channel includes a dia. testing section (10) to separate out any coins that are too small. This prevents the stacking or manipulation of smaller value coins within the following coin tester so that they reach a receiving channel for higher value coins. The testing section (10) consists of a recess (11) formed in a side wall of the inlet channel (1). The upper edge (13) of the recess (11) runs parallel to the feed path (7) of the coins (4). Its (13) distance from the path (7) is slightly smaller than the dia. of an acceptable coin (14). The lower edge (15) runs in parallel to the path (7) at a smaller distance. A deflector (12) is assigned to the opposite side wall (6) of the inlet channel (1).
