<p>The cigarette lighter, using gas or lighter fuel, has a burner jet (3) next to which is a de-icing rod (16) which can be heated by the flame and used to free an iced-up automobile door lock. The rod (16) is normally recessed into the side of the lighter case (1), but is slid along its longitudinal axis to allow its end section to project from the top (2) of the lighter on one side of the flame, when required. Pref. the de-icing rod (16) has a rectangular cross-section and fits into a guide sleeve (15) incorporated in the front face (7) of the lighter. The movement of the rod (16) is controlled by a manual slider or by an integral profiled contact surface at the inner end of the rod (16). The latter may be pre-tensioned so that as it projects from the lighter top (2) it curves over towards the flame. The rod (16) is metal and is sized to allow its insertion into automobile door locks.</p> |
