PURPOSE:To eliminate the unequality between metal-vapor discharge lamps, and secure the starting of the lamp by charging the outer tube with a gas at a given pressure, and by providing a gap between a getter-holding body and a starting circuit on the base side and the base-free side within the outer tube, respectively. CONSTITUTION:A luminous tube 1 and a starting circuit 5 are installed within an outer tube 20, which is charged with a gas at 10<-4>-10Torr. A getter-holding body 22 for absorbing impure gases within the outer tube 20, which consists of a ringlike metal and a getter held by the metal, is installed within an outer tube 20. After the outer tube 20 is sealed, the inner wall of the outer tube 20 is subjected to the vapor deposition of the getter by means of high frequency heating from outside the outer tube 20. A starting circuit 5 is placed on the base 21 side, while the getter-holding body 22 is placed on the top side, which is opposite to the base 21 side. |
