PURPOSE:To obtain a support for water resistant photographic paper having a smooth surface without carrying out processing such as supercalendering by forming a paper layer with pulp having a specified coefft. of light scattering and coating both sides of the layer with a thermoplastic resin. CONSTITUTION:Paper made of pulp beaten to 300ml drainage rate (Canadian standard freeness) is used as base paper. When the pulp is made paper by hand, the handmade paper has 350-550cm<2>/g coefft. of light scattering represented by the equation [where Ro is the average value of reflectance of ten sheets of paper obtd. in accordance with JIS P-8138, Roo is the reflectance of ten sheets of superposed paper, and X is oven-dry basis weight (g/m<2>) obtd. in accordance with JIS P-8124]. After anchor coating, both sides of the base paper are coated with a thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene. Since the base paper has high surface smoothness and gives high smoothness after the resin coating, the resulting support for photographic paper causes no unevenness when a photosensitive emulsion is applied. |
