PURPOSE:To obtain a stabilizer for halogen-containing resins, which is capable of giving excellent heat stability and excellent lubricity to halogen-containing resins, from a semiesterified monoalkyltin salt obtained by the reaction of an alcohol with an alpha-olefin-maleic anhydride copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer of formula I (where R<1> is a C18-C40 alkyl group and n is 2-30), obtained by copolymerization of an alpha-olefin and maleic anhydride, is reacted with an alcohol of the formula R<2>OH (where R<2> is an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, or aralkyl group) to obtain a semiesterified product of formula II. Then, 3mol of the semiesterified product is reacted with 1mol monoalkyltin oxide (e.g., monomethyltin oxide) to obtain an objective monoalkyltin salt. The combined use of the monoalkyltin salt and a dialkyltin-mercaptocarboxylic acid ester salt results in further increase in its heat stabilizing effect and lubricity-providing effect on halogen-containing resins. |
