PURPOSE:To obtain a images of high resolving power with high densities by providing a specific photoconductive recording layer on a conductive substrate, applying voltage below the dielectric breakdown voltage of air between the substrate and the recording electrode in contact with the surface of the recording layer, and forming latent images on the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer 13 which has rectifying characteristic and can trap carriers into the layer, or a recording layer 13 which permits the injection of the carriers from a recording electrode and can trap said carriers or has a carrier generating source in the layer and can release the carriers thereof to a recording electrode 14 is formed on a conductive substrate 12, whereby a recording body 11 is obtaned. The voltage below the dielectric breakdown voltage of air is applied between the substrate 12 of this recording body 11 and the electrode 14, whereby electrostatic images are formed on the layer 13. The layer 13 is formed of the layer having photoconductive characteristics contg. Se, ZnO, etc. Voltages of a number of steps are applied to the electrode 4, whereby the images having halftones corresponding to the voltages are obtained. High-speed recording is feasible as well. It is equally well to improve durability by providing a protecting/ insulating layer of silicone resin or the like on the layer 13. Two-color images are also obtained by changing over the polarities of the applied voltage of the electrode 14. |
