<p>Parent patent described a process and an installation for extn. of sugar from bagasse. The installation has a diffusion stage which includes a mixing tank in which bagasse is put into suspension in washing juice. The suspension is passed through a deaerator and then via a high speed pump to a separator. Drained bagasse from the separator is passed through a press to extract more juice and the bagasse then transferred to a subsequent diffusion stage or to a sugar cane mill. In this addn., the press is now a filter band press, pref. corising upper and lower endless filter bands between which the bagasse is progressively squeezed as conveyed. The separator pref. comprises a perforated screen, inclined to the horizontal. The upper half of the screen is hinged to the lower half to permit relative angular adjustment. The filter band press is less costly than cylinder presses and high pressure mills previously employed. The operating pressure is lower but can be exerted over a long, conveying path.</p> |
