The hydraulic shear cuts compressed scrap metal into bales, to produce bales of different sizes. A lateral press forms bales in a compression chamber, the bales then being conveyed to a cutting station. The chamber adjusts to suit bales of different cross-sectional dimensions, and two pistons (2a,2b) of corresponding sizes are mounted on a rotatable barrel (3). A jack (6,7) may act on a lever arm (8) to rotate a barrel (3) 90 degrees and bring either rectangular section piston (2a,2b) into the overhead position by the compression chamber. The relevant piston (2a) now aligns with the drive rod (9) of a jack, being coupled to it by radial clamps (11a).
|
