PURPOSE:To protect the decorative film of gold etc. without impairing its beauty and improve durability by forming the transparent thin film of metallic oxides such as Al2O3, SiO2 on the surface of the coating layer consisting of gold or gold alloy applied on the surface of a base material made of stainless steel. CONSTITUTION:A coating layer 2 consisting of gold or gold alloy is formed on the surface of a base material made of stainless steel 1 by known means such as plating, vacuum deposition and the like. Thence, a thin film 3 of AlO3 having 10<-5>X5X 10<-3>mm. (100Angstrom -5mu) thickness is formed on the layer 2 by means such as high-frequency energizing ion plating method. The surface hardness of this thin film 3 is HV400-2,000 which is much higher than the surface hardness 150-300 of the base material 1. Hence, the thin film 3 is not impaired by friction and no effects are produced in the layer 2 at all, thus marked surface improvement effect is provided. The results similar to those of Al2O3 are also obtainable even in the case of metallic oxides, SiO2, Cr2O3 other than Al2O3. |
