<p>A digester for anaerobic fermentation of liq. manure, etc. The digester is of the type which comprises a fermentation vessel, means for feeding fresh manure into the vessel and a system of discharging the manure after fermentation. The vessel is fed with fresh manure from a separate reception pit or tank. The fresh manure is passed through a chopping mechanism and piped into the fermentation vessel. The installation pref. comprises a high shear pump which serves as chopping mechanism. Pump suction and delivery are both connected to the fresh manure pit. The pump outlet is pref. branched via two valves, one recycling the manure to the pit and the other transferring manure to the fermentation vessel. The valves are linked so that one opens as the other closes and vice versa. Used for anaerobic fermentation of liq. manure, partic. of pigs, to produce methane and provide an inoffensive, fermented by- prod. for use as agricultural fertiliser. The installation provides industrial scale prodn. of methane with extreme reliability of operation.</p> |
