PURPOSE:To obtain a plate which has high productivity and enhanced life characteristic, by applying a paste having high moisture content to a soft active-material- supporting body, affixing porous separators to the surfaces of the applied paste, and subjecting the separators to dehydration pressing by means of a liquid-absorbing roller. CONSTITUTION:A high-moisture-content active material paste 2 for each electrode is applied to an active-material supporting body such as an expanded metal or a punched metal which is made of either soft lead or a lead alloy, by means of an automatic duplex pasting machine. Acid-proof porous separators such as glass-fiber nonwoven separators 3 are placed on the both surfaces of the applied paste 2. After that, the separators 3 are passed between a pair of press rollers whose surface has an acid-proof feltlike liquid-absorbing cloth 4 wound around that, and thereby the separators 3 are affixed to the paste 2 and the paste 2 is dehydrated. |
