Wave motion in the sea is used to pump water to a shore based storage tank in which a layer of gas is compressed above the rising water to assist in forcing the water through a turbine. Some of the turbine output power may be used to pump water to a storage at a level above the turbine to provide energy during calm sea periods. A float on the sea surface operates, via a rope and pulley, arrangement, the push rod of the pump which has a valved piston at its end. A submerged float acts as a counterweight to restore the piston. As the piston reciprocates water is forced up a pipe to a closed storage tank and supplied to a turbine. A water storage above the turbine can supplement the water flow.
|
