The worktop (1) includes an opening (3) which leads to a waste bag (6) or bin below. It can be closed by a tip-up or swivel closure plate (2) or flap which lies flush with the top of the worktop. A locking element such as a bolt, movable abutment or the like is provided to hold the closure plate in the locked useful position. Vegetable peelings and other rubbish can now be easily swept into the back via the opening without danger of some rubbish actually falling on the floor.
