<p>At the lower end of the upwardly inclined discharge conveyor (2) the apparatus has a unit (11) which during operation performs an oscillating movement in parallel with the horizontal article carriers (4) of the conveyor. The unit consists of an upwardly open, V-shaped chamber defined between the discharge conveyor (2), and opposed rear wall (12) and two end walls (14, 15), and of an upwardly open, V-shaped transfer chute (17, 18) which terminates in a cut-out (16) in the end wall (15) of the chamber located nearest to the supply conveyor (9) and which from there extends below the supply conveyor by and large parallel to the carriers (4). The bottom (19) of the chute is downwardly inclined from the supply conveyor towards the chamber and the bottom of the cut-out (16) in the chamber wall (15) is located at a higher level than the bottom of the chamber. The bottom (19) of the chute is preferably also slightly inclined in the horizontal plane towards the chamber rear wall (12). The apparatus permits a fast and gentle alignment of elongate articles within the chamber, and it ensures generally, irrespective of the shape of the articles, an optimum filling of the transportation pockets (8) formed between the carriers (4) of the discharge conveyor and consequently a high utilization of the capacity of the conveyor. </p> |
