<p>In a particular use for ship's drives, the output shaft is equipped with a heavy flywheel and drives a hydraulic coupling. The pulverised coal forms a useful alternative to replace scarce and costly fuel oil. The pulverised coal is injected into a combustion chamber of a turbine system similar to a kerosene type, but larger if necessary. A flywheel on the output shaft protects the turbine against shock loads. A reduction gearbox and a hydraulic coupling drive the propeller. The turbine blades can be adjusted for speed change or reversal.</p> |
