The stop valve is for a large diameter pipe handling gas at high pressure and temperature, and has a rotary spherical plug and two sealing rings sliding axially and pressed against the plug. The rings (3) are guided by bolts (10a-d) engaging with their outer periphery and fixed in the valve housing (1) in pairs in diametral planes at right angles to each other, protruding into radial recesses in the rings (11). There is a clearance (12) between rings and bolts, so as to allow free expansion of the former in the radial direction. The bolts can extend radially in relation to the rings.
