The splicing coupling (1) has a cylindrical core (2) inside it, which is supported horizontally by spacer bars (3,4), keeping the core (2) in the centre of the coupling (1). Around this central core (2) the individual light conductor bundles (5,6) of the two joined cables (7,8) are wound, the length of these bundles (5,6) depending on the amount required to be left for stock. The left hand bundle of conductors (5) are wound around the core (2) anticlockwise and the right hand bundle (6) clockwise, until they meet at a central position where their connection takes place (9). These connections - either by plug connectors, welding or adhesive - are held by a suitable clamping arrangement parallel with and around the circumference of the core (2). The dia. of the core (2) is chosen so that it is never less than the min. bending radius of the light conductors. The coupling allows a large number of light conductors to be connected and housed with suitable spare lengths, in a small space.
|
