PURPOSE:To accomplish sensitization of CdS effectively without deteriorating dampproof property, by heat treating CdS particles in an atmosphere of oxygen lower in partial pressure than that of oxygen in the air or in an atmosphere without any oxygen. CONSTITUTION:Oxygen and moisture adsorbed in the surface of CdS and the inner face of a heat treatment apparatus are removed by evacuation of the apparatus before heating. At that time, preliminary heating to a not too high temperature renders degassing more effective. Then, an inert gas, such as Ar or He, or gaseous N2 is introduced, gaseous oxygen is mixed when needed, and heat treatment is conducted. Voids of Cd or S are caused by this heat treatment, and these voids contribute to sensitization, but sufficient presence of O2 oxidizes CdS, producing CdO or CdSO4 and deteriorating sensitization effect and dampproof property. |
