In a pneumatic detachable-tread tyre, the tread band 1, which seats in a recess 5 in the carcase periphery, is made circumferentially inextensible by a reinforcement 2 of at least two superposed layers of textile, synthetic or metal strands embedded in the tread band rubber so that the strands are separated from each other and extend parallel, or nearly parallel, to the mid-circumferential line of the tyre, and the carcase 3 is reinforced by one or more layers of rubber-embedded parallel transverse textile, synthetic, or metal strands. The carcase is moulded with the side walls 4 so that the contacting surfaces of the tread and carcase recess, which are preferably smooth, are of the same diameter.
