Nonpolar, organic solvent-soluble tellurium compounds and complexes are disclosed. The compounds are tellurium(II) compounds and are represented by the formula: Te[ (CH2)nSiRR'R'']2 wherein: n is an integer from 1 to 10 and R, R' and R'' are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl and heterocyclic radicals. Photosensitive complexes of these compounds with transition metals, as well as photographic elements having layers comprising these complexes, are also disclosed.
