<p>PURPOSE:To stably extract features of patterns of ''KANJI'' (Chinese characters), etc. in which directivity is definite, by extracting the features obtained by integrating the inclination information of the character lines existing in respective directions and coding these, from respective white points. CONSTITUTION:The binary signals of black and white of an area including one character are successively stored into a pattern memory by the operation of a scanning part 50. A feature extracting part 90 reads out the contents of the memory 61 by predetermined sequence, obtains the feature codes indicating said topological features at each point on the character patterns and stores the same into the memory 61. An identifying part 80 is successively inputted with the contents of the memory 61, obtains the kinds and respective quantities of the feature codes, determines input characters and outputs the results thereof. In this case, the extraction part 90 detects the inclination of character lines, forms the inclination codes to the corresponding black points on the pattern surface, creates phase geometrical features, integrates the corresponding inclination codes on the character lines existing in predetermined positions with respect to the white points by corresponding the same to the feature codes indicating the existence of the peripheral character lines of the white points and the inclination information.</p> |
