It has now been discovered that a gas phase reaction for converting uranium hexafloride into uranium oxide, in combination with dust collection using a filtering operation and a countercurrent pulsed operation with gas to blow dust from the filters, can be performed in such a way that the filters are subjected to a much lower working temperature as a result of the process which comprises introducing a sprayed fluid which has a high latent heat of evaporation into the reaction zone so that no condensation of fluid substantially occurs within the equipment constituting the reaction zone or in the equipment constituting the zone for collection of the material in the form of particles and in such a way that no accumulation of dust and no clogging of the equipment occurs. The sprayed fluid is preferably selected from fluids having a high latent heat of evaporation and a preferred fluid is water, in particular deionised water. This operation comprises introducing the sprayed fluid into the primary flame, or the secondary flame or into the primary and secondary flames at the same time, downstream of the secondary flame. The sprayed fluid can be introduced alone or with a carrier gas such as a gas containing oxygen. This operation also minimises the possibility that the dust will be wetted, thus preventing dust accumulation in the reaction zone or the filtering zone.
|
