PURPOSE:To prepare ethylidenediacetate rationally, by reacting acetic anhydride with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of one or more noble metals of VIII group of periodic table and ammonia and/or an organic nitrogen compound under substancially anhydrous conditions. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of a catalyst consisting of one or more noble metals of VIII group of periodic table (especially palladium, rhodium, or ruthenium) and ammonia and/or an organic nitrogen compound (especially organic nitrogen compound containing trivalent nitrogen) under substancially anhydrous conditions, acetic anhydride is reacted with hydrogen preferably at 40-250 deg.C at a hydrogen partial pressure 3-250atm., to prepare ethylidenediacetate rationally. EFFECT:In the well-known method using the above-mentioned noble metals as a catalyst, an organic phosphine, etc. which is peculiar as an organic industrial chemical, expensive, unstable, and highly toxic, is needed, but in this method, it is not required. |
