Title compds. (II; R1 = Me, Et; R3 = Me, Et, iso-Pr, CF3) which showed herbicidal activity, were prepd. by the reaction of III (X = F, cl, Be, I) and alkoxyamine hydrochloride in the presence of base. Thus, 10 g 2,6-dinitro-4-ethylchlorobenzene was suspended in 100 ml methanol, followed by addition of 14.7 g methoxyamine hydrochloride and 22.2 g triethylamine, and refluxed for a night to give 7.0 g 2,6-dinitro-4-ethyl-N-methoxyaniline.
