摘要 An air-fuel mixture in the proper ratio is delivered by means of a carburettor 25 to a variable atomising valve 28 which projects into an intake manifold 21 through a main inlet 38 opening on the customary carburettor 25 base mounting face 27 of the intake manifold 21. The atomising valve 28 is biased by an eccentric spring means 43, 44 towards a nearly closed position but opens automatically to any required position in response to the demands of the engine. The atomising valve 28 embodies an interior stationary imperforated sleeve 29 and an exterior movable screen assembly 31 mounted telescopically on the sleeve 29. The screen assembly 31 consists of an interior comparatively coarse mesh screen 37 surrounded by a fine mesh screen 36 and an exterior rigid cage 32 for the screens 37, 36. The two concentric screens 37, 36 are in firm contact with each other. A bearing 40 between the barrier sleeve 29 and the rigid cage 32 establishes a necessary jump space between the interior screen 37 and the bore of the barrier sleeve 29 so that the incoming fuel charge after turning will impinge with some force on the interior screen 37. Complete atomisation of the engine fuel charge is obtained with many attendant advantages and wetting of the intake manifold 21 with fuel droplets is completely avoided. The incoming fuel charge is carried to the intake ports of the engine, it is a cool charge, and it travels with a high velocity. <IMAGE>
