The domestic appts. is esp. for releasing and tightening of lids screwed on vessels and for opening of tins. A housing (12) accommodates a vertical column (16) carrying holding and clamping arrangement (14). The housing has a rotating mounting plate (20) for carrying an upright container. The clamping arrangement can be moved relative to the mounting plates in a vertical direction. The clamping arrangement (40) is pressed against fthe lid and clamped relative to the column. The housing has mounting plate drive for generating relative movement between the cover lid and the housing. This rotation breaks the seal between the lid and the edge of the vessel.
