Fire detector for grain storage silos - uses fusible synthetic thread tensioned across controlled area with sensor switch initiating alarm if thread breaks

The fire detector uses a number of lengths of thread (14) made of a synthetic material which melts at a relatively low temp. (40-70 degrees centrigrade). The lengths of thread are tensioned between chosen points (16,17) so that they extend several times across a protected area. One end of each thread is fixed, (15) while the other carries a tensioning weight (19). If the temp. rises above the desired level, the thread breaks and the weight falls activating a switch (21). The weight operates an alarm circuit either to produce a warning signal or to initiate an appropriate counter measure. The system is appropriate for the control of the temp. inside grain storage silos.
