The mechanism for filling bags (10) with folded sides comprises an outlet (1) provided with two members (2,3) which are pivotable on horizontal axes (4) and carry clamp jaws (5) to grip the edge of the bag opening and hold it in an open position. In the closed position, the lower ends of the members come together below the centre of the outlet and form downwards open slots (9) into which fold-forming blades, pivoted at the sides of the outlet, e.g. via parallelogram linkages, enter to fold the top end of the filled bag.
