Electrical interconnection box for printed circuits - uses pins pushed through pack of copper and insulating layers preformed with matrix of slots to join different layers

The interconnection system is designed for automobile use providing a reduced volume low weight novel solution to the need for electrical interconnections which are extremely reliable. The system consists of thin copper sheets glued or bonded onto card or a similar dielectric sheet, each layer being provided with rows of narrow parallel slits. These are stacked in layers with the slits alternated horizontally and vertically in succeeding layers to form a pack. The outer layers could in fact be printed circuits. The layers are interconnected by pushing pins into the slits in the pack. Large holes are formed in the copper layers where no connection is intended and small holes where connectionsect are desired so that the copper is deformed slightly by the pin. The pins which need not penetrate the full depth of the pack are soldered to the outer layers to give extra rigidity to the pack which is then coated with moulding to make it watertight.
