NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic antlermicin B and C (B and C for short respectively. Appearance: white powder. Elemental analysis: B, C 60.60%, H 7.24%, N 2.18% and C, C 60.71%, H 7.16%, N 2.77%. Molecular weight: B, 1,260, and C, 930. Melting point: B, 210-214 deg.C, and C, 229-236 deg.C. Specific rotary power: B, [alpha]D <1>-67.1 deg. (C=0.63, methanol), and C, [alpha]D <1>-71.3 deg. (C=0.62, methanol). Solubility: soluble in methanol, acetone, etc., slightly soluble in petroleum ether or water. Acidic substances. USE:Antibacterial agent, and carcinostatic agent. Having activities against Gram- positive bacilli, cancer cells, etc. PROCESS:A new strain T-90 (FERM P 5005) of Micromonospora chalcea is subjected to neutral cultivation under aerobic conditions, the desired substance is extracted with an organic solvent, e.g., ethyl acetate, etc., and purifed by extraction, etc., to give antlermicin B and C. |
