A workpiece is cooled from a molten, pasty or solid state to a solid, crystalline or amorphous state, while >=1 other physical parameter is altered, e.g. pressure; the frequency or amplitude of vibrations; or an electric field voltage, current or frequency. The physical parameters are altered according to a program w.r.t. time, while the cooling rate depends on the conditions of heat transfer. The change of state may be achieved via forming process, or by heating and quenching and/or tempering. The workpiece consists esp. of polymer resin powder, granulate, sheet, foil or laminate, which is heated to a vitreous, semicrystalline, rubbery or molten state, and then subjected to pressure and vibration. Also used for processing metals, glass, ceramics, and rubber etc.
