PURPOSE:To simultaneously coat an article with a plurality of liquid layers by a slide hopper type coater, while avoiding mixing and swelling between liquid layers which might occur when the liquids fall along a slide surface, by improving a fluidity of a coating liquid which will form the lowest layer. CONSTITUTION:A coating liquid 11, which will form the lowest layer, is carried by a conventional method through a slot 5 onto a slide surface 4, and flows downwards along the lide surface by gravity. The other coating liquids 12, 13, which will form a second and a third layer, respectively, on the lowest layer, are also fed through slots 7 and 9 onto slide surfaces 6 and 8, respectively, and flows downwards along the slide surfaces by gravity. In this case, the viscosity of the coating liquid which will form the lowest layer is preparatively controlled at such a level that it is equal to or slightly different in the range of + or -10cP from the viscosities of the coating liquids which will form the upper layers at a lower shearing rate, and that it is lower than those of the upper layer forming liquids at a higher shearing rate.
