A tyre tread pattern for use on snow or mud features circumferential sets of rectangular blocks aligned laterally and having diagonally opposite corners extended circumferentially. Pairs of short blocks with similar characteristics are located in the middle of the tread zone, while others of intermediate length are located along each border of the tread zone. The corner projections pref. have square faces. The ends of the blocks may be flat, stepped or peaked. The major sides of the largest blocks may be normal to the circumferential axis or offset at 60-85 deg. thereto. Laterally adjacent blocks may be staggered circumferentially. The heads of the blocks may feature stepped slots or slits. Combines good grip, directional stability and drainage with low noise.
