Grooves for grinding machine plate - are non circular in section, and of specified proportion for limited contact with grinding balls

The grinding machine for bulk material has plates with grooves or recesses over one face for rollers or balls. The cross section of these recesses is not exactly circular, so that the balls are supported in the grooves at two points or over only a short distance, as seen in section. These plates are made of highly wear resistant material, so that the recesses are not worn away. In the peripheral direction, the cross section of these recesses is formed by an ellipse one of its parameters being between 120 and 160, pref. 140% of the largest ball. In the other direction, the other parameter is between 50 and 90, pref. 70% of the largest ball. The greatest depth of groove is between 10 and 30%, pref. 22% of the dia. of the largest ball.
